Baseball Legend Ty Cobb Once Lived in This Lake Tahoe Estate

The 26th annual Tahoe Reno Luxury Estates Tour features one legendary property that will excite baseball aficionados — the former estate of Baseball Hall of Famer Ty Cobb.

Located on a .87-acre lot on the shores of Lake Tahoe in the town of Glenbrook, Nevada, is the 1938-built cabin-style home built for the baseball legend. Ty Cobb — a native of Narrows, Georgia — was such a celebrated athlete that he received the most votes of any player in the inaugural Baseball Hall of Fame class.

According to Baseball Reference, Cobb is credited with setting 90 MLB records during his 24-year career, including the combined total of runs scored — a record he still holds today — and highest career batting average (.366).

When the home was previously listed, Top Ten Real Estate Deals said that Cobb bought the home as a vacation property after his retirement. He chose this location because it was on the tax-friendly Nevada side of Lake Tahoe. The lot was originally 2.25 acres and was sold by his heirs most recently.

The home has been extensively remodeled since its construction, and offers panoramic views of the Sierras and Lake Tahoe. The home has rich wood paneling throughout most of its 3,597 square feet, which gives the property a rustic charm. With five bedrooms, four full bathrooms, an updated kitchen, and a beautiful stone fireplace in the open living area, there’s room to host friends and family during summer and winter trips. A four-car garage offers plenty of storage for automobiles and toys.

Susan Lowe of Chase International Real Estate of South Lake Tahoe has listed 1472 Flowers Ave. for $12.75 million.

It was 1950 and the owner of the Dallas Eagles rented the cotton bowl in fair park. Abe Burnett had arranged to bring in an all time all star line up to play one inning to open the Eagles season.
I was 16 and a baseball nut. I researched ever name listed. One man stood out. Tyrus Raymond Cobb. I had to have his autograph !
There was a 4 ft chain link fence between me and Mickey Chockrane ,Rogers Hornsby ,Dizzy Dean , and of course .Ty Cobb.
I jumped that fence and raced to the old timers dugout. Cobb was setting next to Hornsby..I thrust my program towards Cobb and he threw it into the grass. Hornsby retrieved my program and said “comon, Ty,you old sun of a @#*ch ,sighn the kids book. Not only did Cobb signed .but so did Rogers Hornsby. The security was after me!! I cleared the fence again, and ran for my life! With my treasure. Thank you mr. Hornsby!!
