Splurge vs Steal in The Glamorous Hollywood Hills

Share News:

Ah, the ever-iconic house party in the Hollywood Hills. We’ve all seen it in the movies — the Los Angeles nighttime skyline sparkling in the background beyond the infinity pool as prestigious producers, celebrities, and wannabe actresses mingle in a contemporary mansion. (Yes, I am basically just summarizing the second scene of La La Land.) But of course, these fabulous Hollywood Hills abodes exist beyond cinematography’s imagination, serving as beautiful places to live or vacation … as well as the perfect setting for a killer party.

Today’s Splurge vs. Steal begs the question: Do you prefer unmatched interiors with luxury resort-level attention to detail or the perfect, sweeping city views?

Splurge: Resort-Level Interiors for $7.995 Million

Show me a slideshow of this house’s interior shots and I could swear to you I was looking at the designs for a brand new Aman resort. Awash in natural light, the white and beige interior is a temple to minimalist design. The attention to detail is unparalleled with clay ceilings and walls, 12-inch white oak floors, and limestone hardscape throughout. There’s also a peaceful pool surrounded by palms. The two trade-offs for near-perfection inside: the pool doesn’t have that iconic city view beyond it and the outside of the house isn’t much to look at. But hey, they say it’s what’s on the inside that counts, right?

From the listing:

“Located on one of the most desirable streets of the Hollywood Hills, 1718 Rising Glen is a house built with the finest attention to detail while honoring philosophies of minimalistic design.”

Steal: The Perfect City View for $2.95 Million

At a considerable discount from our Splurge, this multi-level home offers sweeping views of Los Angeles from almost every living space. With four beds and four baths, there’s plenty of room in this home for great details like quartz counters and a wine refrigerator. There’s no pool at this property, but honestly, that bathtub perched in front of the grand window with the city view might just make up for it.

From the listing:

“This multi-level Spanish-style home features four bedrooms, four bathrooms, plus a bonus room above the detached garage with views in almost every living space. Remodeled in 2018-2019, the features entail a formal entry with a powder room that leads to a gorgeous living room with high ceilings, a huge gas fireplace to enjoy in the winter, and balcony with large accordion doors that open up to the balcony overlooking the spectacular city views.”
