Maine Versus Pebble Beach, CA: The Hidden Jewel Called Drakes Island

Parson's Beach and the Parson Estate

I am not supposed to tell you about this little island just off route 1, in-between Kennebunkport and Wells, in southern Maine. But I could not resist this house. (And look at the beach in your front yard!)  It looks so beach-y and cool for us right now in Texas. And it’s a good comparison to what you get on the other coast in Pebble Beach. 163 Island Beach Road is right on the water and features 5 bedrooms and 3 baths. The kitchen has been redone with granite counters and opens to a spacious living/dining area with full ocean views. You will fall asleep to the sound of the surf in the beautiful ocean side master suite — I’ve been doing it for years up the street.  Drakes Island Beach is really one of the finest beaches in Southern Maine, in fact, in the world. Beaches are wide and slope gently for body-surfing and yes, the water is cold but feels so good when you are up there and everyone is cooking in Texas. Drakes Island has zero commercial development — it’s all homes. Not even a general store (though my mother-in-lkaw says there was one in the 1940’s). Rentals are very strong and the market is tilted to the buyer right now, so give me your shopping list and I’ll go house-hunting for you when I’m up there next month! This sweet angel: under $2 million at $1,795,000.

Love me the rugged Oregon coastline of the Pacific NW, but even more so, I HAVE to make my way to the beautiful Maine coastline as well. Its time!
