Dallas Vs. Forth Worth: Is Dallas Becoming a Second-Class City?
Share News:
You’ve heard of Fort Worth-Arlington, yes? No? Gosh darn it, what is the name of that other city to the east of Arlington that starts with a D?
Oh right, yes. Dallas.
I love this: BestPlaces.net has released its 10 best cities to move to in America, and Fort Worth-Arlington was ranked No. 4.
Um, no mention of the D-word.
I have said this for years: people who live in Fort Worth do so because it’s a great city, close enough to Dallas to get all the amenities, from shopping to cultural events, but a cheaper place to live with a lower cost of living. And honestly, I love downtown Fort Worth. I think it’s prettier than Dallas. Like if I were going to have a second home in Texas, I think I’d buy a high rise in Fort Worth and drive to Dallas for the fun.
Fort Worth’s crime rate versus the Dallas crime rate? Fort Worth is a smaller town than Dallas, a population of about 576,000. There were 25,092 larcenies or thefts in FW last year, in 2009. Of a population of 1,230,302, Dallas had more than 58,554 larceny/thefts. So almost equal, actually. What are your thoughts on living in Dallas versus Fort Worth? I do know a NYC man who keeps a condo in Fort Worth so he can reside in a state with no income tax. He’s dating a woman in Dallas. Sometimes the two meet in Arlington, which, with the World Series and Superbowl, is enjoying as much publicity these days as Josh Hamilton, maybe more: Arlington was featured just last week as one of the top U.S, cities where it is cheaper to buy a home (just over $72,000) than rent ($789.00 a month). Looks like taxes are 0.697 per $100,000 of property value.
