While the pandemic drove many Manhattanites out of the city, actress Joan Collins had a different plan. Over the past year, the legendary Dynasty star and film producer husband Percy Gibson have been splitting their time between homes in London, Los Angeles, and Saint Tropez.

Which leaves the couple’s sprawling 2,200-square-foot Midtown Manhattan co-op up for grabs. Priced to sell at $2.095 million, the three-bedroom, three-bathroom home is yet another New York City bargain ready for the taking. On and off the market for the past several years, it’s been priced as high as $2.9 million.

Oversize windows give the 31-foot-wide living/dining area a loft-like feel.

For much of 2020, the NYC luxury housing market struggled with mounting inventory, a shrinking foreign-buyer pool, and uncertainty over a looming pied-à-terre tax, reports the New York Times. “It’s not selling if it’s not at a discount,” says Hall F. Willkie, the president of Brown Harris Stevens. Reductions range from 7 to 20 percent.

According to Architectural Digest, the pair’s decision to sell the home is likely a bittersweet one. In an email, Collins recalled that she “fell in love immediately with the spaciousness of the rooms and the feeling of light and airiness.”

“The clincher for me,” she added, “was the 16 closets.”

(No doubt even Alexis Carrington Colby would approve.)

A coveted address ups the ante.

The unit is located on the eighth floor of the 21-story Dorchester, a post-war building only steps away from tony Park Avenue. The apartment— 8 EFG —actually encompasses three units, combined by the home’s previous owners.

“With three light-filled exposures and an expansive living/dining area, the apartment is well-suited for easy entertaining, working from home, or comfortable city living,” says Brown Harris Stevens listing agent Carolyn Weiner-Trapness.

The galley kitchen can potentially be opened up.
The primary virtually-staged bedroom overlooks 57th Street.
The home’s bathrooms feature an abundance of mirrors.

The adjacent galley kitchen, albeit small, sports updated stainless steel appliances. It can easily be expanded to create a true open floor plan.

The primary suite, once a studio apartment, is particularly roomy. Standout features include a large walk-in closet and Art Deco-esque style bath complete with Robin egg blue tile work.

The apartment includes a second primary suite.
Mirrored walls add even more light to the unit.
A third bedroom/office sports built-in bookcases.

The home comes with some serious star power.

A celebrity-studded guest list often included Collins’ sister, novelist Jackie Collins, Diahann Carroll, and musicians Michael Feinstein and Neil Sedaka.

“Every time Neil or Michael told us they’d come, we would rent a piano in the hopes we could persuade them to play a few tunes,” Collins told the Times, adding that she “was overwhelmed that they always graciously agreed.”

The home is ready for new owners to make it shine again, says Weiner-Trapp. “It’s a true hidden gem on Billionaire’s Row.”
