The Legendary 225,000-Acre Four Sixes Ranch Has Sold

It was on. Then it was off.
Now it appears that the sale of the historic Four Sixes Ranch is a done deal.
The famed ranch, which comes with its own very own trademark and website, apparently has sold. Its history began in 1870, when Capt. Samuel “Burk” Burnett, all of 19 years old, bought 100 head of cattle branded with “6666.”
Or some believe the captain won it in a poker game with a hand of four sixes. Either way, the legendary ranch encompasses 225,000 acres where President Theodore Roosevelt, folksy humorist Will Rogers, and Comanche leader Quanah Parker were among those entertained there. Oh, and oil. Oil was part of the story, too.
So the legend began.

A Legendary Texas Ranch Has Sold
Now in 2023, real estate gossip is confirmed by the “sold” marking on listing carousel on the Chas. S. Middleton & Son website. It’s sort of a Hollywood ending — or maybe a Hollywood beginning.
Sources say a Tinseltown group purchased the ranch, and among the new owners is actor, screenwriter and director Taylor Sheridan, a product of Fort Worth’s Paschal High School. Besides being Oscar-nominated for his 2016 screenplay “Hell or High Water,” Sheridan’s current star status comes from the red-hot TV show “Yellowstone.” As co-creator of the show, he also launched the series spin-off, “1883,” much of it filmed around Fort Worth.
Among the largest ranches in Texas, the Four Sixes Ranch originally was listed for $192 million in late 2020 after the death of Fort Worth philanthropist Anne Burnett Windfohr Marion, heiress to the famed land. Marion’s generosity included founding the Georgia O’Keefe Museum in Santa Fe and supporting such local institutions as the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth and Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital.

Four Sixes Ranch, located about three-and-a-half hours northwest of Fort Worth, is Hollywood-style Texas. With rolling pastures for horses and cattle, the ranch also features a “bunk house,” in a luxurious Texas style. Wood beam ceilings, cozy fireplaces, and sweeping vistas are part of the package. Just like a movie set — which is among the rumors about why Hollywood folks wanted it.
And now, what’s next for the Four Sixes Ranch? Is it ready for its close-up?
