Virginia is for lovers but it is also for scallywags, saucy serving wenches and pirate ships. If the pirate’s life has ever called to you, then you need to reach out to Capt. Dan Corder.

“Capt. Dan” has refurbished 33 ships in a pirate theme and his latest creation is on the market right now for $49K and it is located in Virginia’s Northern Neck.

“Everyone who has seen it has said this is the grandest pirate ship of all the ones I’ve done,” Corder said.

Imagine getting out of town for the weekend but instead of staying in a boring house along some waterway, you stay on your own pirate ship complete with a “skeleton” crew.

With two bedrooms and one-and-a-half bathrooms, Corder said the living space is the same as a tiny house, which is growing in popularity.

“It is a houseboat,” Corder said.

An Offer He Could Not Refuse

Corder’s passion for creating pirate ships began when a neighbor was going to send a boat he owned floating away because “it sank more than it floated.”

“He gave it to me and after a few drinks I decided to turn that boat into a pirate ship,” he said. “The community fell in love with it.”

Then one day, Corder said a guy pulled into his driveway and asked if his pirate ship was for sale. Corder said “he couldn’t afford it.” The gentleman asked Corder to name a price. When he came up with a price, Corder said the prospective buyer “pulled out his checkbook and asked to whom do I make the check to?”

After the new owner took possession of the pirate ship, Corder said he told his son “I feel like I got a void.”

That is when the search for the next old, broken-down boat began so that he could rehab into another pirate ship. As they say, the rest is history.

Search For Another Ship Began

Since that time, Corder said he has sold his pirate ships to businesses, restaurants, and Disney. Refurbishing these old boats brings Corder a lot of satisfaction.

“When you’re new and shiny everyone wants you, but when you’re old and tired no one does,” he said.

The current ship Corder is selling measures 46 to 47 feet.

“It’s a neat boat,” he said.

Now before you think you can start marauding on the high seas, Corder said the ship does not sail. “It’s a motorized boat,” he said. “The sails are just for decoration.”

That is what makes this a perfect getaway spot. It is fun and different and if you turned this houseboat into an Airbnb, you would give folks the chance to live out their pirate fantasies.

“You’re going to be the coolest kid on the block if you get a pirate ship,” Corder said.

Corder invites you to give him a call if you would like to get more information on what could be a great investment. He can be reached at 571-233-1663.
