Nantucket Summer House: Splurge vs. Steal?
Share News:
Nantucket Island evokes idyllic images of summers spent on the beach, strolling the wharves and cobblestone streets, and plenty of shenanigans at sea. Just 30 miles off the coast of Massachusetts, the tiny Atlantic island is a popular New England second home getaway.
Splurge
235 Madaket Rd, Nantucket, MA 02554
If this isn’t the perfect Nantucket escape, I don’t know what is. Elegant and spacious at 2,800 square feet, the home includes sweeping pastoral views, a new pool (complete with cabana), and a gorgeous stand alone cabin.
Throughout the house, it’s hard to find a single detail amiss. The caramel-colored exposed beams, vaulted ceilings, a sliding sky blue barn door in the kitchen, and rain showers.
From the listing:
“Sweeping pastoral views and privacy at this turn-key nantucket compound make this property the perfect Nantucket escape. Newly renovated main house features a first floor primary suite, open concept kitchen and living/dining rooms, separate den and additional bedrooms and office on second floor.”
Steal
2 The Grv, Nantucket, MA 02554
It’s hard to find a flaw in our Splurge this week, however not all of us have a spare $6 million in our pockets. Just a mile down the road, this Steal boasts an extra 1,000 square feet. The exterior appears a bit more tired despite several recent renovations. However, there is an undeniable sense of rustic charm with the red trimmed, barn-like buildings and blossoming cherry tree out front.
Inside, there are three bedrooms, European oak floors and a one-bedroom apartment over the garage that’s perfect for short term rental income. Similar to our Splurge, the white walls and ceilings are beautifully contrasted by dark, wood in the way of beams on the ceiling and door frames.
From the listing:
“Enjoy all the amenities of the Fishers Landing Association including: two tennis courts, boat storage, water access from Warren’s Landing, and the beach path to 40th Pole. Great location with nearby ‘Wave” bus shuttle, the Madaket bike path, and Madaket Harbor while only being 4 miles to the center of town.”
