This Trio of Rock Star-Worthy Homes Hits All The Right Notes

We all may have partied like a rock star, but what about living like one? We found three extraordinary homes — each one unique — with ties to the music biz.
What: A Pacific Heights Victorian
Who: Singer Linda Ronstadt
Where: San Francisco
Asking Price: $17.5 million
Home to the beloved singer until the late 1990s, this 9,175-square-foot light-blue Victorian is located on a desirable block in San Francisco’s coveted Pacific Heights neighborhood.
Highlights include a dome-shaped stained-glass skylight, elegant period details, and swoon-worthy views of the North Bay.
Victorian architecture is common in San Francisco, with many of the houses dating back to the turn of the century, according to Compass listing agent Nina Hatvany. Current owners are Craig Bryson, founder of beauty and wellness company Nu Skin and wife, Kathleen, who paid $5 million for the property — almost double what it cost Ronstadt about a decade earlier.
A formal living room, library, grand dining room, rec/family room, and eat-in kitchen are among the home’s multiple living areas. An ultra-luxe primary suite sports a fireplace and walk-out deck overlooking the Bay and Alcatraz. There’s also a large back terrace and lushly-landscaped garden.
What: Benedict Canyon Five Structure Compound
Who: DJ Calvin Harris
Where: Beverly Hills
Asking Price: $25 million
A private gate opens up to this secluded Benedict Canyon estate situated on 2.7 acres. While the East Coast Traditional-meets-Southern Colonial architecture might conjure up images of elegantly restrained, stuffily formal rooms, the decor here has been radically eroticized with “premier craftsmanship … and the finest materials,” according to the Douglas Elliman listing.
Realtors are agent-to-the-stars duo Josh and Matt Altman.
The main residence features grand living spaces with soaring coffered ceilings, herringbone hardwoods, and floor-to-ceiling windows. “Floating” bookshelves, exposed brick walls, and a quartz staircase are all pricey renovations made by homeowner, artist, songwriter, and perennial hitmaker Calvin Harris. (Think Rihanna, Kylie Minogue, Dua Lipa, and Rita Ora, among others.)
In addition to the four-bedroom main residence, there’s a two-story guesthouse housing two separate recording studios. Other amenities include a movie theater, standalone gym, an “entertainer’s dream” backyard, and an outdoor swimming pool surrounded by eucalyptus trees.
If the house sells for close to asking price, Harris stands to make $10 million on the deal.
According to Dirt.com, the Scottish-born DJ is trading in his glitzy LA lifestyle for a more “simple existence” on the Spanish island of Ibiza where he recently purchased a 138-acre organic farm/ranch.
What: Modern Urban Oasis
Who: One Republic Musician Brent Kutzle
Where: Silver Lake, Los Angeles
Asking Price: $3.5 million
This light-filled, modern 3,215-square-foot home epitomizes California living at its best. Floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors in the main living area open up to an impeccably landscaped backyard and curtained dining terrace.
The home’s “beguiling gardens” feature bougainvillea, mature olive trees, spiky succulents, and delicate palm trees.
The veteran rocker — who has also written scores of songs for pop divas like Beyoncé, Ellie Goulding, and Kelly Clarkson — purchased the property almost three years ago for $2.425 million. Compass Realtors Jenna Cooper and Caroline Wolf hold the listing.
Kutzle tapped Night Palm Interiors’ Tiffany Howell to fill the two-story home with modern metallic accents, vintage furniture, printed wallpaper, and statement lighting fixtures. There’s also a chic midcentury modern-inspired kitchen, guesthouse/screening room, and dark-bottom swimming pool and spa.
