Actor Tom Cruise’s Tony Telluride Compound Lists for $39.5 Million

Anyone who wants to purchase actor Tom Cruise’s newly listed Telluride estate is going to have to show him the money: $39.5 million, to be exact—the current asking price for the sprawling 320-acre Colorado compound.
What’s most striking about the home — which Cruise completed in 1994 — is its unparalleled privacy. The driveway leading up to the house is a mile-long, surrounded by Aspen trees. A national forest borders on three sides.

It’s almost invisible from other properties because of where it sits, according to LIV Sotheby’s International Realty listing agent Dan Dockray. “Everybody that’s lived in Telluride knows where it is, but a lot of people haven’t seen the house because you can’t see it from anywhere.”
He also expects the mountain-top lodge to sell quickly. The is not only property well priced, Dockray says, it’s appealing to buyers looking for a change in scenery.
“We’ve never actually seen a market this strong — high end, low end, whatever.”
So what does close to $40 million buy? For starters, an uber-chic address in one of the most in-demand ski resort towns.

And then there’s the house itself. The 11,512-square-foot custom-built abode has seven bedrooms and nine full bathrooms, along with two fireplaces, a three-car garage, fitness center and recreational area. A free-standing guest house sports three additional bedrooms.

Warm wood is featured throughout the interior—think furnishings, flooring, walls, even the kitchen’s counters and island. The family room has a vast stone fireplace made by local craftsmen.
As expected, the views are breathtaking. Located on a hillside, the property sits at an elevation made for watching sunsets on the southwest ridges of Wilson Peak, Gladstone Peak, Sunshine Peak, and volcano-coned Lizard Head.

The grounds are befitting an action movie star.
Activity-oriented features include a large sports court and dirt bike and snowmobile track. An extensive network of trails is tailor-made for hiking, snowshoeing, and all-terrain vehicles. There’s also a fitness center and spa.
Some may remember the property from a 2006 Vanity Fair article featuring the actor and then-fiancée Katie Holmes. After months of tabloid guessing games about their new baby, the couple decided to introduce Suri to the world in the pages of the esteemed pop culture magazine, photographed by Annie Leibovitz.
Writer Jane Sarkin shared with People.com: “Annie and I flew out, spending our days and nights at the compound to limit any suspicions among the paparazzi around town. And for five days Tom and Katie willingly posed for family pictures without complaint.”

Oprah Winfrey was another famous visitor to the house, requesting a private setting for the pair’s 2008 interview. “It’s difficult to have a real conversation in front of a real audience,” the talk show host told People.
One final plus: the home is only minutes from historic downtown Telluride, renowned for its world-class skiing and golf.
