My favorite real estate blogger, Mama dear over at The RealStalker, got the scoopola straight from Austin: Dennis Quaid and his wife, Kimberly, have a giant 11,000 square foot plus house on Lake Austin under contract and are ditching sunny Cali to raise their twins here in the Lone Star state, or at least, in that part that is most like California: Austin.  My colleague Sheree Curry at AOL talked to their LA agent, who told Sheree that “one of her favorite features of the Pacific Palisades home they are leaving behind is ‘a great set of huge vintage wood doors that Dennis and Kimberly put in to enter the master suite. They add a wonderful ambiance and set the scene for entering the room.’ “  Well, I’ll take being on Lake Austin over vintage wooden doors any day, no offense.

And look how much more space the Quaids are getting in Texas: their 8,400-square-foot main house in LA has 8 bedrooms and 8½ baths, a master suite with a fireplace and private balcony. Fireplaces are everywhere: the gourmet kitchen, the beamed living room and the covered loggia that overlooks the swimming pool and spa. A converted gym sits above the kitchen, but the space can be used as a maid’s quarters. There is also an office and a wine cellar. On for $16.9 million.

In past interviews, Quaid has hinted that he bought a couple of acres on Lake Austin, back when he first met his bride, Kimberly Buffington, who worked in real estate in Austin. According to TREC records, Buffington holds an inactive Texas real estate license. Her father is the CEO of Austin-based Buffington Signature Homes. Last time she was in Austin, she was doing PR for a Title Company. Oh, and talking about multiple homes: the Quaids own their home in Pacific Palisades,  the one on the market, and a ranch near Paradise Valley, Montana, near Yellowstone National Park.

Regina Montoya and Paul Coggins are apparently taking a lesson from George and Laura Bush: just because the kids are grown, doesn’t mean you need a teeny tiny house. Oh, and come on over to Preston Hollow, the water’s just fine.

You remember Regina Montoya and Paul Coggins? Paul was a former U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Texas. He is now chairing the white-collar practice, securities litigation, and corporate governance at  Locke Lord Bissell & Liddell LLP. Formerly, Paul was a partner at Fish & Richardson. Regina, his lovely wife, is a Senior Vice President and General Counsel at Children’s Medical Center Dallas where she watches over several major departments, including legal affairs, governance, governmental relations/advocacy, and community relations. A former award-winning television commentator, Montoya is a Harvard-trained attorney and one of the first Latinas to earn partnership in a major law firm in the United States. Not only is she working on a book about the importance of incorporating Latinas into the economic, political, and social fabric of America, she and her husband have been busy building a new home on Lobello Drive in Dallas. I promise pictures and details soon.

Hmm. Wonder if one or both of this power couple has more political aspirations?

Last month, the Montoyas/Coggins sold their East Dallas home at 3302 Oakhurst Street for $699,000. The home had been listed for a high of $899,500 back in May of 2009 by Regina’s brother, realtor Andrew Montoya of The Drew Company. That listing was canceled, a new file went up, and the home was listed for $799,000, then $749,000. Closed February 28.

Oakhurst, which had been built in 1977, was on a .72 acre private creek lot, a one-story home with pool and spa. It had been extensively remodeled, and taken down to the studs. Walls of windows looked out over the verdant lot with creek views. The 3451 square foot home featured three bedrooms, two and a half baths, living area with mosaic fireplace and reading loft, a  Zen solarium with wall fountain. The master bath and suite were huge, spacious and created of stone.

So now Regina and Paul are on to a whole new chapter in their life: an 11,424 square foot home as empty nesters. I can hardly wait!

Beautiful backyard on Oakhurst!
