What a shame to let a gorgeous vacation house stand empty when it could be put to good use raising funds to support the homeless!

If you’re going to rent a vacation place anyway, why not book a spot that will do the same?

Austin Street Center is hosting a fundraiser that has your name all over it if you own a vacation home that you are willing to lend, or if you are interested in purchasing a stay at a lovely vacation property to benefit the Center’s facilities and programs to help the homeless. The second annual No Place Like Home Event will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 23, at Pirch NorthPark Center. Linda and Frank Roby are co-chairing the event.

“By leveraging vacation properties owned by Austin Street Center supporters and friends, we will be able to provide a unique opportunity to both our donors and auction winners,” said Cynthia Olson, advancement director at Austin Street Center. “Donors will generate much-needed funds for Austin Street at little to no cost to themselves, and attendees will have the chance to win a stay at one of many fabulous spots around the country — only their vacation will benefit the homeless here in Dallas.”

Austin Street Center is a nonprofit organization which helps more than 2,700 homeless men and women annually through emergency shelter, food and clothing, and interdenominational spiritual support. Through crisis intervention, case-management, transitional housing, and work-readiness programs, the center provides support and life skills to assist the most vulnerable of our society to achieve independence.

Vacation property sites on the block include Taos, N.M., Crested Butte, Colo., Outer Banks, N.C., and “staycation” packages at the Warwick Melrose and Hotel ZaZa in Dallas, with more to follow as donations continue before the event. “We had 13 properties last year and we’ve already blown past that this year,” said Charlotte Baker, marketing coordinator for Austin Street.

Attendees will enjoy hors d’oeuvres and live cooking demonstrations by John Kleifgen, executive chef of Nick & Sam’s Park Cities, and live music by The St. Mark’s School of Texas jazz band, while shopping and socializing in Perch’s stylish venue showcasing the latest in kitchen and bath appliances and design.

Tickets are $50 per couple or $250 per group of 10 and are available online at www.austinstreet.org/noplacelikehome. To add your home to the roster of vacation properties included or confirm your attendance contact Charlotte Baker at charlotte.baker@austinstreetcenter.org.
