Yikes, that arctic blast made me long for a warm beach with a tropical breeze! Time to head for Seven Mile Beach, named by Travel and Leisure as “The Caribbean’s Best Beach.” The destination I am longing for? The Kimpton Seafire Resort + Spa, Grand Cayman, the first new hotel in the Cayman Islands in a decade. Developer Dart Real Estate opened the boutique hotel just this past November, and announced the launch of an affiliated residential option: The Residences of Seafire, 62 luxurious modern units in floor plans ranging from 600-square-foot studios to 4,000-square-foot, four-bedroom abodes that share the resort’s landscaped gardens and pools, panoramic views, and open access to gorgeous Seven Mile Beach.

In a post last year, Candy Evans provided info on the fascinating background on Dart Realty founder, Ken Dart, heir to a Michigan-based polystyrene cup company fortune who transitioned from bond investor to Cayman Island developer. Dart’s flagship Cayman project is the town of Camana Bay, a mixed-use development of commercial office space, shops, and restaurants, luxury residential rental housing, and an international school spread throughout 500 acres of walkable area, planned according to the principles of New Urbanism. Year-round events such as food festivals and children’s story times knit residents together in an idyllic community designed to accommodate multi-generational families. The Kimpton Seafire Resort + Spa and The Residences of Seafire add luxury lodging and private home ownership to the utopian oasis.

Mark VanDevelde, CEO of Dart Enterprises (Cayman) Ltd, said: “Seafire exemplifies what Ken Dart, our shareholder, believes to be most important in our real estate development: long-term value creation, thoughtful design, and creating places and experiences that enhance the Cayman Islands for residents and visitors alike.”

Interior designer Martyn Lawrence Bullard’s signature style is an ideal fit for Dart’s development. Inspiration from the natural surroundings and vibrant colors found throughout the island is evident in the modern Caribbean aesthetic showcased in the chic lobby, model residences, and rooftop lounge. “The Cayman Islands is such a design-driven destination with an incredible flavor for modern luxury. I was inspired by the beautiful colors, history, and craftsmanship of the islands to create an upscale living haven at The Residences at Seafire,” said Bullard.

The designer is known for mixing ethnic elements into modern environments and bold use of color, as shown in the rendering of a Bullard-designed model room below:

There’s a sleek and modern kitchen for those times when you are not dining at the resort’s acclaimed restaurants. (Avecita, The Kimpton Seafire’s in-house Spanish tapas bar, was just named one of the best new restaurants of 2017 by CNN.)

SB Architects and notable local architect John Doak collaborated to engineer the building, incorporating eco-friendly materials and energy-efficient features with sustainability and LEED certification in mind.

The Residences at Seafire range in price from $1 million to $8 million USD, and come with top-tier concierge service, a rich social scene, and the privacy one expects in a luxury residence, adhering to Dart’s mission.

“With thoughtful design and programming, buildings can transcend bricks and mortar. They become places where people can have meaningful experiences, where memories are created and where there are compelling reasons to return,” said Jackie Doak, President of Dart Real Estate.
